If you’ve landed on this page in the hope that I have all the answers when it comes to choosing the right pillow for you, I’m afraid you’re going to be disappointed. Although, I do know what you’re going through because it’s so confusing knowing which pillow is going to be money well spent.

There are latex pillows, memory foam, feathers, and just about any other material you can think of. Add to this the fact they come in a mind-boggling amount of sizes and shapes, and you’ve soon got one big job on your hands finding the right one!

However, all is not lost because there are a few basic rules to go by. For instance, knowing what your preferred position to sleep is will help eliminate certain models right from the word go.

For those of you who sleep on your side, a firm pillow will give your neck and head the support it needs.
If you sleep on your back, a less firm pillow will give you more cushioning which in turn, helps with support.
Stomach sleepers should really look for a pillow that’s soft and flat so it doesn’t put too much strain on the upper spine and shoulders.

Of course, price is something everyone will consider and if you opt for say, an orthopedic pillow, this will cost you more. Certain materials such as memory foam or latex will also cost a bit more, but the difference between spending a few extra dollars or having to deal with neck and shoulder pain all day is worlds apart.

The fact is there are no hard and fast rules about choosing the right pillow because everyone is different. However, if you at least understand the position you sleep in can affect posture, and you have an idea of what type of material suits you best, you’re halfway there.

Just to make things a little clearer for you, I’ve added the video below (don’t worry it’s not hours long).
