A “Dreamy†Answer to Your Night Time Back Pains
There is one main reason I decided to bring this website to the internet, and that was the fact that I (like millions of other people) suffered from back pain which never seemed to really go away. If you suffer in the same way, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Back pain is actually one of the biggest “niggles†people suffer from and if you’ve seen your doctor about it, you’ve probably been through all sorts of remedies that don’t seem to do the trick. It may sound naïve but it wasn’t until a friend pointed out to me that sleeping on that old spring mattress might not be helping matters that I started to research how a mattress can actually help in this department.
Now I’m not saying a new mattress will “magically†make back pain a thing of the past, especially if it’s serious, but it can sure make life an awful lot more comfortable. I can testify to this fact because I’m now the proud owner of a DynastyMattress Therapeutic Deluxe 10″ (reviewed here). However, for those of you that have a little more money, in this review, I’m going to tell you all about the Ultimate Dreams 13″ Gel Memory Foam Mattress.
The Technicalities
As the name suggests, this mattress is 13 inches in depth. Working from the bottom up, there is an 8-inch high-density foam base, on top of that are 2 inches of 5lb memory foam, and then you have 3 inches of gel memory foam – more on this further down below. All of this is topped off with a knitted cover.
For those of you who are interested (and I’ll bet there are quite a few), Ultimate Dreams attest to the fact that all their memory foam mattresses are made in the USA. Unlike many other more expensive brands that are manufactured in countries like China.
If you’re new to memory foam mattresses, you may not know but they do need to “outgas†due to the materials used. However, this one suffers minimal compression when it’s made and therefore doesn’t need as much time to expand.
Plus, it comes with the prestigious CertiPUR-US Certification. This means the mattress has undergone rigorous tests to prove that chemicals such as ozone depleters, chlorofluorocarbons and heavy metals such as lead or mercury are not used in the manufacturing process. This all helps with indoor air quality and reduces that “out-gassing†odor that many people complain about with other brands.
The Best Bit – Comfort!
I can speak from experience that if you’re changing from a traditional mattress to this one, you will find it a little odd in the beginning. This is because your body is being supported in places that weren’t before, so be prepared to give it a couple of nights at least before you get used to it.
The gel memory foam allows you to sink into the mattress and the 5lb memory foam beneath is where all the support takes place. But as with all mattresses, your body needs to get used to the new environment in which you’re sleeping, so it’s worth bearing in mind that your back pain might not disappear overnight.
Unlike several other memory foam mattresses, this one does not retain too much body heat and is neutral in temperature. However, some have noted that if you have a tendency to get hot overnight this mattress doesn’t exactly help, but this might also be due to the knitted cover.
Other Important Points
If you’re worried about how long this mattress will last (since many other brands suffer complaints about permanent indentations), Ultimate Dreams offer a 20-year warranty.
You’re also not limited to the size you buy because it’s available in Queen, Full, Twin, King, California King, and Twin XL. If you can’t find the size you would like, you don’t have to worry about that either because the manufacturer offers a custom size option.
Overall
If you want to be able to go to sleep and “dream away†without interruption (and reduce the amount of back pain you suffer) this mattress has a lot to offer. It’s a high-end mattress without the price tag you find with brands like Cloud Luxe, Hastens, or Astrabeds.
