Foam Mirror

Making a foam mirror is a fun, easy project that can be done by kids, beginners and teens. You will need some supplies in order to make your own so read carefully before you get started.

Supplies:

  • Foam board (16 inches x 24 inches) – You can find this at the craft store or Walmart. It’s cheap!
  • White glue – You’ll need this for sticking the foam together, so again, don’t spend too much on it because there’s not much left after you’re done hot gluing all your pieces together! If you want to splurge on something though…I recommend buying 3D paint pens which are really fun if you want more detail on your mirror 🙂
  • Pliers/scissors/ruler/pencil/marker (optional)

Before making a foam mirror, you will have to gather the required materials. The materials include:

Before making a foam mirror, you will have to gather the required materials. The materials include:

  • foam sheet of 1/2 inch thickness (can vary according to your choice)
  • a pair of glass cutters
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • spray paint (like metallic silver spray paint) and primer(if you want to paint your foam).

Foam sheet of 1/2 inch thickness (can vary according to your choice)

The foam sheet must be 1/2 inch (0.5”) thickness. This is a good size to work with, and if you don’t have this exact thickness it’s okay, but don’t go much thicker or thinner than that. If you want to make your mirror bigger or smaller than mine, then alter the dimensions of the foam board accordingly:

If you want to make a larger foam mirror than mine, use 4 pieces of 1/2 inch thick foam board instead of 2 pieces (or 8 pieces for an even larger one).

If you want to make a smaller mirror than mine, just cut down all measurements by half (that means there will be twice as many triangles in each row).

A pair of glass cutters

You will need a pair of glass cutters to make your mirror. The glass cutter is used to cut the glass into shapes, patterns and designs for decorative purposes.

Glass cutting takes practice as it involves handling sharp tools, so be sure to wear protective gloves while working with the cutter.

Ruler

A ruler is used to measure the size of the foam sheet. It is also used to draw lines on it.

Pencil

  • Mark the foam sheet with a pencil. Use it to trace around the mirror frame and back, then cut along those lines with scissors or a craft knife.
  • To make the frame stand up straight, you can use a 2×4 or 2×6 and attach it to some blocks of wood or cinder blocks that are sturdy and won’t move around much when you touch them (just make sure you’re not going to hurt yourself!).
  • Once your foam mirror is dry, place it on top of your backing material so that one side is facing down onto your surface (this will be where people see themselves). If necessary, secure it in place by using pins or tape (whatever works best for you!).
  • Take care when handling the frames because they may still be fragile at this point; if not using cinder blocks or other supports underneath them while painting/stenciling/etc., use something like blue painter’s tape across their surfaces before starting work so nothing sticks when touched later on without being noticed right away–which could lead to damage!

Spray paint

You can use any spray paint you like. However, it is important to use a primer first. The primer will help the spray paint stick to the foam better and ensure that your mirror does not peel or chip off easily. You can also use a spray paint that is specifically for foam or plastic, but not all sprays are made for this type of material so be sure to read the label carefully before using them on your mirror surface.

Spray primer

Spray primer is a primer that is sprayed on to a surface to prepare it for painting. Spray primer is used to seal the surface of a surface so that the paint will stick to it better. It’s also used to prepare a surface for painting.
